My Bio

Lauren Freeman

Birth Date and Place

My name is Lauren Ashley Freeman, born in San Diego on Wednesday September 6th, 1995. For the first year of my life, I lived along with my parents in a rather small condominium in El Cajon, and once my parents decided they
were ready for a home, we moved in with my grandparents during the home search. We lived with my grandparents for about a year and once I was about two years old, we finally moved into the house I currently live in today. I’ve lived in San Diego all my life and couldn’t imagine leaving it behind. Not only is it my birthplace, but it makes me the way I am today. The beach twenty minutes from my house, the sunny days with friends during the summer, and the perfect friendly environment.

Family Members

I have happily grown up with my two parents and little brother, alongside my grandparents of my mother’s side, and my many aunts, uncles, and cousins. My mother was born February 4th, 1963 and was adopted at 12 months old by my grandparents Joanne and Roger Smoyer. For twelve years of my mother’s life, she lived in Los Angeles with her adopted family, and later moved into the house my grandparents currently live in, residing in Ramona. My father was born in Albany, New York on April 6th, 1964. My father is the youngest of eight children of my grandparents, Gilberte and Lawrence Freeman.  My father moved to California when he was twenty, six years after the death of my grandfather. Lastly, I have one sibling, my brother Dylan. He was born in November 2000, when I was five years old. He currently goes to the same middle school as I did, and is in the sixth grade.

Childhood

My childhood was pretty average. School Monday through Friday, and as much fun in the outdoors as I could. My family would camp, go to family barbeques and of course spend days at the beach. I started playing was soccer when I was five, so we also spent times on the field under the sun. If we weren’t attending my games, we were for my brother. My favorite times as a child would be at my grandparents in Ramona. Their backyard is an acre, with horses and their two dogs, Taco and Sugar. The sunny, yet breezy outdoors and the feeling of being home, makes it a sweet spot. We would sit out on the back patio and talk about what is currently going on in life. It is the one place to this day, you feel there are no worries in the world.

In  school, I was always the teacher’s pet. I thrived on getting good grades, doing homework, and keeping my good graces with the teacher. However, I always loved mostly the talks with friends during recess, lunch time, and hanging out in front of the school, just talking and having fun. It was those times that I didn’t care how much homework I had or wqhat tests were coming, because I was with friends. In high school, I have received Alpha Plus four times and have kept a good grade point average throughout the past four years.

Hobbies

I’ve always been a sports fan. Whether it is playing or watching, I enjoy it. I have played soccer for ten years in AYSO, club, and high school teams. I love Disney, and am probably its biggest fan. I have been to Disneyland more times than I can count. I also love to camp and be outdoors with all of my family and close family-friends. Another thing most people know I have as a hobby is singing. I always did sing at home or in karaoke, but was always very frightened to sing in front of people. I knew I could sing, but it just sounded horrible when singing to people. In my freshman orientation, I heard the West Hills Choir, and was mesmorized. Ever since then, I have been apart of choir, doing solos in every concert, and learning new things about my voice everyday.

Anecdotes

I am all about music and I can’t imagine my life without it.
Two years ago, Honors Choir for West Hills was heading to Anaheim for my first competition with Choir. This competition was known as “Music in the Parks”, known for the award ceremony held in Disney’s California Adventures. We did a couple songs that we have worked on for months, and didn’t think anything grand about our performance. We spent the whole day in Disneyland, happy as anyone would be. We went on every ride we could handle and had the time of our lives. To this day, anyone who went on that trip talks of how amazing it was. Later on in the day, we made our way over to the other park, awaiting who won the first place, overall award. Mickey and Minnie Mouse attended and everything. Finally, we heard our division and fourth place, third, second. Then, the announcer called for a drum roll...the winner of the first place and overall best performance goes to West Hills High School Choir! We all jumped up throwing our W’s in the air and howling like the wolves do. Once the ceremony was over, we ran out of the theater, yelling and screaming about how we overcame twenty different schools to get that amazing result. You never think about the work you put into the songs, until that type of moment. Of course, right after that we took some pictures with our trophy and ran to the next ride in winning fashion. The people waiting in the Tower of Terror line had no idea what happened just then, but we made sure they knew.

I will never forget the first time I did a solo for the concert at West Hills. I sang one of my favorite artist’s songs, “Strange”, by Patsy Cline. I auditioned and was so excited to see myu name on the final set list. I wasn’t very nervous, but then came the night before. I laid in bed, thinking of all of the things that could go great or bad. Would I fall, trip, forget the lyrics? Would I be so great that I got a standing ovation? Well, that maybe was out of the question, but I did think of all of the possibilities. The night of the concert, I stood backstage waiting for the person before me to finish. My hands were shaking, and a little warm. My legs began to shake and I started to panic. What will it be like? I hear my name and my song, and made my way onto the center of the stage. I waited for my track to start playing, and waited, and waited some more. It wasn’t going! I stood there for a little more, getting very anxious by then. I finallyb hear it start and I get my first words out. Everything is going all right, especially for my first time up there. I finish the song, hear big applause, and leave the stage feeling very accomplished. It was the first time I ever sang on stage in front of anyone besides my parents and family. It lit a fire in me to sing all the time for choir and have been doing so ever since that night, besides the small mishap.

Career

I recently got my first job at GTM Stores is Santee. This job has given me the freedom from, my parents ( a little) and has given me the responsibility of paying back the money my generous grandmother lent for my car. In the fall, I will be attending Grossmont Community College for two years. After those years, I will have my Associate’s Degree, and transfer to SDSU to achieve my Bachelor’s Degree. I want to study forensic evidence and law.
